SCENE STUDIES

During production classes, I had the opportunity of directing two scene studies, one from Julie & Julia and the other from Blue Valentine. The rule was that if you direct these, you cannot watch those movies beforehand as to not replicate the director's original work. In Spring 2020, I directed the sequence from Julie & Julia during an In-Class demo wherein we were given an hour and forty five minutes to get the entire scene done. In Fall 2020, I directed the sequence from Blue Valentine entirely remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I blocked and shot these scenes with the actors on Zoom and had them self-record the entire sequence. I then edited it to make it seem as though they were in one space. It was a very challenging but ultimately rewarding experience, and I was gratified to receive great reception by my professor and classmates.
